It's a Rainy Day

  


  Whether we like it or not, the spring brings with it lots of rain; cold rain, warm rain, wind and rain. It can be a bit of a let down when you hope to finally soak up some sun over the weekend only to be greeted with a damp and rainy day. But, there are things we can do to lift our mood. Don some cute boots, open a colorful umbrella or wear a bright colored coat. Get out and find something to brighten your spirits. Visit a museum or see a movie. Ideas are less likely to come to us at the spur of the moment. So, let's make a journal page of the things we might like to do on a rainy day so we aren't stuck scrolling on our phones all day long. Add a little rainbow or even a rubber duck to set the mood and brainstorm away.

     2- Visit an Art Gallery

                                                                          3- Have Coffee with a Friend

                                                                          4- Organize Your Photos or Scrapbook

                                                                          5- Clean Out the Junk Drawer

                                                                          6- Take a Short Walk 

                                                                          7- Visit a Bakery

                                                                          8- Peruse a Greenhouse or Nursery

                                                                          9- Repair Something 

                                                                          10- Have Lunch at your Favorite Pizzeria

      Make a list that is perfect for you and enjoy your day no matter the weather.

I'd Rather Not

 With Thanksgiving next week, thoughts of the big meal are on my mind. Buttery mashed potatoes, crisp green beans and sweet cranberry sauce set my mouth to watering. But what of those not so delicious items that end up on your table. We can all think of a few. As a little stress reliever or bit of fun, take a moment to write out your best excuses to avoid get stuck with a bad taste in your mouth. Then, when Aunt Bessie asks you to try her cheesy brussel sprout and onion casserole with a cinnamon and sugar streusel topping, you have just the right thing to say. "It looks so interesting! Unfortunately, onions don't agree with me these days" instead of grimacing in horror as she lays a big scoopful on your plate. If you're brave enough,  you could even write out the words you would never actually express like, "send that casserole back to hades!". You'll be surprised at how much you have to say!

In Case You Ever Look Back

 Thanksgiving has come and gone. My Christmas decor went up this morning. But, I am going to suggest spending a few more minutes on the November holiday. Make a time capsule page in your journal today about everything that happened yesterday. (even if its only a double shift at your job). One day you may want to look back and realize how many people you helped or how glad you are to be in a new job. Things are always changing and our minds can become fuzzy. Celebrate your day. Add some additional things that are traditionally found in a time capsule as well such as the price of gas and what movies were playing at the theater. Do as much or as little as you desire.

Give Yourself a Pat on the Back

 I was at the store today running errands. Nothing usual going on and not feeling particularly harried. Then, the check out person asks if I am having a busy day. I mumble "Yeah, sort of...I guess." cause I am out doing errands before work. They reply, "I hope you are able to rest soon." in a surprisingly serious tone. Now, this should have been a nice exchange. I could have felt seen or appreciated. I did not . I felt judged and ugly. The person was young and beautiful and I stifled the urge to reply, "When 900 years old you reach, look as good, you will not." I am not yet elderly but in that moment I felt it. The check out person could have been trying to offer support but I think it is more likely that they were just trying talk about something other than the 684 consecutive days of rain we've had lately.
