The Things that Last
You may have looked at this title and instantly thought of family, friendships or important traditions in your life. This is not what this post is about. I am taking a much more light hearted look at my world today. I need it and you probably do too. This post is a salute to things you rarely replace. I'm not talking about refrigerators or dishwashers. I'm pointing toward the little things cluttering up drawers and closets that are necessary to life but you only use occassionly; the buy it once and you're done ever present bits and pieces. By now, some of you may be scoffing. You wish that the shopping list was shorter. But, I guarantee you have items in your house too that have sat around a while. I was reminded of something I read recently just this morning as I reached for a cotton ball. It was a random social media post about using Worcestershire sauce only once in a blue moon. Admittedly the chefs in our home go through it at a noticable rate but it made me think about items we have had for a while. For instance, I do not remember when I bought that bag of cotton balls. I am not exaggerating when I say that it has been in the closet for years. It's almost as though they magically replenish like bunnies after one gets used. They have been employed for first aid, make-up, crafts, science experiments and still the bag remains half full. It is always half full. Strange. But, I digress because the real champion in our house is the box of staples. It and a heavy metal stapler went with me to college. The stapler has long since been retired as have several of its successors but that box of staples still has plenty of life left. It has moved with me no less than five times. I may include it in my will just for the fun it because I am starting to have the feeling that the staples will out last me. Therefore today, I am making a page about my box of staples. It clearly deserves an award for best deal or investment. A life time of use for under $2. What other product can say that? It is a truly amazing value. Go find one around your home and lavish it with praise and hopefully give yourself a little smile.
